Hey Limette's!
So much to cover in so little time! Here are our little lime thoughts on some of the shows this week...
Justin Timberlake and Trace Ayala put on a show filled with army green fatigues, oversized grey sweatshirts, tons of leather and hints of fur! While it wasn't incredibly inventive, it was wearable and jam packed with trends from head to toe. The threads were fun and sexy on both the men & women; and while WR usually focuses on denim it seemed they made the switch to leather. It didn't leave us drooling but let's be real- JTim can do no wrong in our eyes!
The wonderfully creative and ever-impressive Oscar de la Renta was once quoted saying "We're dealing with sophisticated customers. What's most important to these women is individuality. I have to create things she'll want to wear, no matter who she is." His RTW Fall 2010 collection directly addresses those sophisticated customers he referred to. He covered everything glamorous from his hair & makeup to his threads. The models walked with big, feathered 'dos and glossy makeup wearing lush fabrics, bold colors and decadently embroidered pieces. For evening he scaled his creations down slightly, seemingly targeting a younger audience. My favorites were a silvery cowl-neck column with a lamé skirt and a black faille gown with a dramatic bustle in the back. Yet again, Oscar de la Renta left us wishing we had an Oscar red carpet to walk.
With the rest of her peers toning things down a bit, Vera Wang did her best to join them in a less ornate fashion, in her own way of course. Tailoring was a focus of this show, but Wang put her luxurious, ultra-femme stamp on it; cutting the sleeves off at the elbows so it can be worn with opera gloves; affixing sequins to pockets and designing an organza corsage for her first look. Our favorite look was a LBD dripping in metallic sequins and swags of black tulle & accessorized with pearls. While we loved her subdued evening looks and delicate suits which can stand in for an LBD, we adore Vera for her elegance and way with glamour, and therefore equally loved the few elaborate looks she sent down the runway.
"What's classic is modern," Michelle Smith proclaimed before her Fall show. We think Eric Damon, custome designer for Gossip Girl, was sitting somewhere in the show saying yes to every look! While her show wasn't entirely inventive, she did bring back old glamour & spiced it up in her own way. Strengths included cropped peacoats in double-faced wool and several ladylike wool jacket-and-miniskirt pairings. Her evening looks lacked the it factor we at LLD were looking for but our two favorites included a subtle yet sexy LBD with volume and a dainty bow & a sparkling gold stunner that will turn heads this fall!
